![]() Amerkhanian, Nazarian and Rostami Selected for ANCG Summer Internship Program Glendale, CA- The Armenian National Committee of Glendale welcomed this week three local students for its summer 2010 Internship Program Session. Joining the selective part time leadership program are Nyree Amerkhanian, Ani Nazaryan, and Christina Rostami. “The summer 2010 internship program will be an intensive one for the interns given all the projects and community events ANCG will be hosting and participating in the coming months,” stated Elen Asatryan Executive Director of the ANCG. “We look forward to providing them with opportunities to better understand governmental proceedings and learning the fundamentals of community organizing and service,” added Asatryan. Nyree Amerkhanian, an alumni of Armenian Sister’s Academy, is currently a senior at Glendale High School. She is involved in a wide range of activities such as the Armenian Students Association, the California Scholarship Federation, and Future Doctors of America where she will serve as President come September. Amerkhanian is also a former member of the Armenian Youth Federation and a volunteer at Young Women Christian Association and St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church. As a junior at Clark Magnet High School, Ani Nazaryan has been a proud executive leader of the Armenian Students Association for the past two year where she will serve as President during the 2010-2011 school year. In addition to her volunteer efforts with Glendale Healthy Kids, the GUSD 9th Annual Armenian Genocide Assembly and St. Mary’s Apostolic Church, Nazarian has been an active member of the ANC Glendale Voter Registration committee since 2009. Christina Rostami, currently a senior at Glendale High School, is a proud member of Link Crew, where she provides guidance and support to underclassmen at GHS and the Armenian Students Association, where she assists the organization with fundraising efforts. Rostami is currently employed at Advanced Search Quality Inc. as a control manager and an in-house bookkeeper. “I am thrilled to be given this opportunity because it will allow me to become more aware and active about issues of concern to the Armenian-American community, while learning the nuts and bolts of a grassroots community,” stated Nyree Amerkhanian. Established in fall 2007, The ANCG Internship program provides an opportunity for student leaders and activists to gain an in-depth understanding of Armenian-American issues as well as advocacy efforts on the local level. In addition to networking with community leaders, candidates participate in workshops featuring a variety of guest speakers, including public officials, ANC leadership, and specialists from the community. Interns also partake in joint projects with fellow interns as well as individual sessions ranging from media relations and civic participation to grassroots advocacy. The Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian-American community and promotes increased civic participation and awareness at the grassroots and public policy levels. ####
