![]() ANC Glendale Walks for a Cure
“Relay wouldn’t be a success without organizations like the Armenian National Committee – Glendale who put the effort and time to help raise funds and find a cure for cancer,” stated Relay Planning Committee Co-Chair, Margaret Agus. “I acknowledge the effort and time the teams put into this event. It truly was a great way for them to educate the community on ways of prevention,” added Agus. Mayor Frank Quintero kicked off the event with opening remarks followed by comments from Glendale Adventist Medical Center Chaplain, Elias Molina, Relay Co Chairs, Mari Abrams and Margaret Agus. Throughout Relay participants engaged in activities such as yoga, Pilates, hula hoop and balloon contests and karaoke. All the while, the track had opened up for dedicated teams of friends, families and community members to join cancer survivors in keeping at least one team member walking for the next 24 hours. “The ANC Glendale interns fundraised heavily for Relay for Life, allowing the organization not only to participate the day of the event, but also stand as a sponsor for such an important cause,” stated ANC Glendale Relay Team Captain, Talar Alexanian. “One of the most touching portions of the event was the Luminaria, during which everyone stood silently holding lit candles in honor or in memory of someone struggling with cancer,” added Alexanian. The Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels. ####
