ANC-Glendale Chapter Hosts Final Forum for Parents
October 18, 2007

Glendale, CA – The Armenian National Committee – Glendale Chapter held the last of its “Path to College” forum series Wednesday evening at Toll Middle School.  Organized in association with the Glendale Unified School District and State Assemblymember Paul Krekorian, the forum’s objective was to reach out and educate Armenian-American parents about the college application process and the necessary steps their students need to take in order to progrMarkess to higher education. 

The program began at 6:30 pm with a welcome speech by ANC-Glendale Chapter Executive Director Elen Asatryan, followed by guest speakers Dr Michael Escalante, GUSD Superintendent, and Greg Krikorian, GUSD Board of Education President.

During the forum, GUSD Board Member Nayiri Nahabedian informed parents about services provided by ELAC, Healthy Start and CASPS, while PTA Council Historian Elizabeth Manasserian discussed the benefits of joining the PTA.

 “The Path to College forum was a good experience for all parents and students who are college bound,” stated PTA Council Historian, Elizabeth Manasserian. “It was an enlightening night for many,” added Manasserian.

The main portion of the program was presented by GUSD Counselors Karine Turdjian and Arsine Hovannesian, who provided information about high school graduation requirements, college admission requirements, SAT & ACT College admission exams, and ways students can recover credit.  They were followed by GCC Financial Aid Counselor Irene Aghanian who walked parents through the different avenues of paying for college.  Lastly, Mark Corkery, President of College Focus, gave parents tips on how to choose a college and how to write the perfect personal statement.

“On behalf of the Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter I would like to extend my warmest gratitude to the organizing committee, the administration and staff of Glendale Unified School District, and all the parents who attended,” stated ANC-Glendale Chapter Executive Director, Elen Asatryan. “We look forward to incessantly working with the community to ensure a bright future for our youth,” added Asatryan.

The Armenian National Committee - Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city's Armenian American community and promotes increased Armenian American civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels. It is the voice of this vibrant community, which seeks to advance and enrich Glendale.
