![]() New Glendale City Manager Scott Ochoa Meets with ANC Glendale
Glendale, CA - During his first week as the newly appointed Glendale City Manager, Mr. Scott Ochoa met with the ANC Glendale Board of Directors on Monday, January 9th in an effort to officially introduce himself and share his vision and expertise as well as to acquaint himself with the organization’s mission, programs and issues of concern to the Armenian American community. “Mr. Ochoa brings a fresh perspective along with a wealth of knowledge and experience in city management and community development, We were very pleased with the outcome of our first meeting and look forward to working him to better serve the Glendale community for years to come,” stated Executive Director, Elen Asatryan. During the meeting, ANC Glendale representatives presented an overview of the organizational structure and discussed ongoing programs hosted by the local chapter including voter registration and civic engagement initiatives, free after-school tutoring for low income youth, internship and volunteer programs, free legal clinics, it’s recent food distribution that served over 300 families during the holiday season, the Path to College forum series as well is its involvement in various city committees and public policy matters. Mr. Ochoa discussed his background, philosophy and management style in addressing city and community issues. “The strength of Glendale is its diversity. The strength of the Armenian community rests with its proud heritage, its culture, and its history of community involvement and advocacy. The ANC plays a crucial role in preserving this tradition of action on behalf of the community. Equally important, the ANC is demonstrating its commitment to serving not only the Armenian community, but the Glendale community overall,” stated Glendale City Manager, Scott Ochoa. Ochoa began his public service career working for the City of Monrovia as an intern 1993, while in his senior year at Claremont McKenna College. After graduating from CMC with a Bachelor of Arts in Government in 1993, Ochoa earned a fulltime position with the City. He continued to work for Monrovia during the day while pursuing a Master’s Degree at the USC School of Public Administration at night. In 1996, Ochoa earned his MPA with an emphasis in public sector entrepreneurship. In March 2004, Ochoa was appointed by the Monrovia City Council as Monrovia’s new City Manager. During his tenure, Monrovia continued its aggressive economic development program, worked to balance quality of life issues with fiscal constraints and development pressure, and he has restructured the organization to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing business environment. Ochoa was joined by Community Relation Coordinator, Zizette Mullins. Representing the ANC Glendale were Chair Berdj Karapetian, members of the Board of Director, Garrett Atamian, Hilma Ballain, Lena Bozoyan, Devid Gevorkyan, and Kevork Talatinian, Executive Director Elen Asatryan. The Armenian National Committee – Glendale Chapter defends the rights, advances the interests, and promotes the well being of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels. #### |
