ANC-Glendale Chapter Announces Spring 2008 Internship Program Participants

Glendale, CA   The Armenian National Committee – Glendale Chapter announced its choice of 2 candidates to participate in the Spring 2008 Internship Program. Established in Fall 2007, the ANCG IP is a selective sixteen-week, part time, leadership training program, which introduces driven young public servants to all aspects of the public affairs arena.

The Program provides an opportunity for student leaders and activi2008 Internssts to gain an in-depth understanding of Armenian American issues as well as advocacy efforts on the local level.  In addition to networking with community leaders, candidates participate in workshops featuring a variety of guest speakers, including public officials, ANC leadership, and specialists from the community. Interns also partake in joint projects with fellow interns as well as individual sessions ranging from media relations and civic participation to grassroots advocacy.

The Spring 2008 Program participants are Ara Karamian and Tamar Thomassian.

Ara Karamian recently graduated from Crescenta Valley High School where he served on the executive board of the Armenian Club.  He began attending Glendale Community College as a Political Science major in the fall of 2007 and has plans of transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles.  Most recently Karamian has taken on the challenge of serving as a troop leader for the Homenetmen Ararat Chapter scouting division where he works to inspire Armenian youth

“There aren’t many things I hold as dear in my life as I do my Armenian heritage. Working with the ANC is my way of giving back to the culture which has taught so much to me,” stated Ara Karamian.

Tamar Thomassian, currently a freshman at Glendale Community College, is also majoring in Political Science and is on track to transferring to University of California, Berkeley. Thomassian has been involved in many Armenian-American organizations such as the Armenian Youth Federation for a number of years, working on issues that deal with the Armenian Diaspora and the Armenian Cause.  She has also been active on campus by organizing events and fundraiser for various non-profit organizations.

“The ANC is the voice of Armenian Americans living in this country. It is an honor for me to work amongst dedicated individuals who fight day by day in advancing our cause and help pave a better future for our future generations,” noted Tamar Thomassian.

The Armenian National Committee - Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city's Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation and awareness at the grassroots and public policy levels. It is the voice of this vibrant community, which seeks to advance and enrich Glendale.
