ANC Glendale, GYC Distribute Food to Over 170 Glendale Families
December 29, 2010

The Armenian National Committee of Glendale in partnership with the Karamanoukian Glendale Youth Center and the Glendale Chapters of the ACFJ, ARS, AYF, Hamazkayin and Salvation Army distributed food donations to over 170 low income Glendale families during the holiday season.

“We had a fantastic response from community members, schools, organizations and local businesses, which allowed us to collect over 10,000 food items,” stated Elen Asatryan, Executive Director of ANC Glendale.  “On behalf of ANC Glendale we thank all our partners as well as Captain Rio Ray and Mr. Rick White from the Salvation Army for their guidance and support. We wouldn’t be able to have such a successful drive and distribution process without them,” added Asatryan.

Distribution of food items began on Sunday, December 19, 2010 during which over 100 families that were members of veteran associations, elderly groups or participants of  Glendale’s Salvation Army programs visited the Glendale Youth Center to obtain food items in time for Christmas. The distribution process ran all the way through December 29, 2010.  Each family received over 45 food items ranging from canned vegetables and fruits to pastas, soups, oils, cereals, breads, sweets and other items.

Major sponsors included Kradjian Imports, Super King Market, Freedom Baking Inc./Shushan Lavash, Da Vinci Imports as well as Vahan & Anoush Chamlian Armenian School, that requested for each class of the school to participate in the food donation process.

The Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city's Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
